    As part of a global anti-piracy initiative, two weeks ago,Microsoft announced that it would launch an updated version of the anti-piracy systems Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) and, for the first time in China, also introduce the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) which is aimed at targeting pirate versions of Microsoft Office including Office XP, Office 2003 and Office 2007.

    A wave of consternation swept through Internet chat rooms after the announcement, with netizens worried that the constant appearance of a “black screen” would interrupt their ability to use their PC. Forum and BBS users came up with satirical black screen-themed desktop backgrounds to display their opposition to the new anti-piracy measures .

    China.org.cn quote a Microsoft employee as saying

    neither WGA nor OGA is aimed to hit Chinese users, and both of them have operated in the US market for some time. These services can be blocked by turning off Windows "Automatic Updates".

    Software stores in Beijing also reported that sales of authorized Windows and Office software had increased after the “black screen” measures took effect.

    北京的软件商店表示这政策发布之后，正版Windows和Office软件的销量大增。

Open source and free softwares are good, and I also tend to use them. But Windows is not a simple software, it's an OS. Refering to other OS, like LINUX, yeath, it's free. But I still consider Windows to be the best choice for daily use. If you use other one, in China, it will be very unconvenient, and makes you can't help turning to piracy Windows...

For the guys who can't afford for the authorized softwares, i recommend you to use open source or free software.

I thought it shouldn't be accused by users.
MS has the right to protect its intellectual property.
And that's easy to avoid by turning off Windows "Automatic Updates".

On the other hand, how do you think about the situation that someone use your products without pay?

I'm useing an unauthorized Windows XP now,and since I come to konw the computer,I used an unauthorized one.I know an authorized one is too expensive for me now.When I join a good job after graduated,I'll buy an authorized one .

im ohly chose correct,not expensive.

well, i'm now using unauthorized windows xp, but i've got a authorized key that can pass the WGA. i found it on the web. refering to office,i don't use it at all. i choose WPS instead. if someday authorized windows OS costs only around 200 RMB,i think i'll be glad to use it.

I am against it ,It's impossible for a chinese people to buy one system in so much money.

I will use the unauthorized Windows XP as usual ,because I can't afford for the authorized one which is so costly for chinese.
